Black History Month Celebration
February 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm
Admission is FREE.
February is Black History Month and the Quincy Underground Railroad Museum at the Dr. Richard Eells House is pleased to announce its annual Black History Month celebration. There is much for our visitors to experience this year. We have a wonderful video telling the story of Eells and runaway Charley on the fateful evening of August 21, 1842. We also have rooms with story boards telling in more detail the stories of abolitionist activities in our area plus the stories of life in slavery. You may also get a peek at our next project where we will display an original sidewalk from the Eells period.
Please join us for this event at the Eells House at 415 Jersey St. in Quincy on Sunday, February 18th from 1-4 p.m. The event is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be provided (sweets, heavy hors d’oeuvres and Pepsi products).
Our special program this year will be a presentation from the New Philadelphia group on their ongoing activities restoring the village, near Berry, Illinois, that was founded by freed slave Frank McWorter. (and now a National Parks Service site). Also, and always highly anticipated will be our very own Mett Morris to bless us with her songs.
