Join us at The Historic Carriage House behind the Quincy Underground Railroad Museum at the Dr. Richard Eells House.
The Quincy Underground Railroad Museum will be open at 1:00 pm and will be open until 4:00 pm October 8 for those who wish to view the video and tour the museum.
Dr. Hotle will talk about the exciting new information that has come to light in the past year regarding the exciting events that occurred in Marion County in May of 1836 and in Quincy and Adams County from May of 1836 through 1837.
Dr. Hotle, is Professor Emeritus of History at Culver-Stockton. He holds the John Sperry Jr. Endowed Chair in Humanities. He is currently collaborating with Quincy attorney and author, Terrell Dempsey, on a book on the abolitionists in this region that will be published by the University of Missouri Press. This will be the first of a series of talks in the historic carriage house located behind the Quincy Underground Railroad Museum.
It was here that Dr. Richard Eells returned after his failed attempt to get the runaway slave Charles to safety at the Mission Institute in 1842. Join us to learn more about this exciting and unexplored part of American history. It was here that the key events happened that would lead to the U.S. Civil War!
